Welcome to SIEM REAP, the treasures of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Upon arrival, we will be picked up and transferred to visit the Chong Kneas Floating Villages, located 10 kilometers south of Siem Reap. Take a ride in a traditional wooden boat on the Tonle Sap, the “Great Lake” of Cambodia and the largest in Asia. Here we will see plenty of examples of the Khmer way of life on the Tonle Sap. After that, transfer to a restaurant for lunch. This afternoon, visit Wat Thmei (Killing Field), which contains a unique glass-walled stupa containing the bones of victims of the Khmer Rouge. Some of the bones were recovered from a nearby well, while others are the remains of soldiers who died on a nearby battlefield. Continue to visit the “Les Artisans d’Angkor – Chantiers Ecole”, the Finest Authentic Khmer Arts and Crafts. Enjoy a set local dinner with an Apsara dance show – a taste of classical Khmer culture. Dinner and overnight in Siem Reap.

After having breakfast at the hotel this morning, we explored the South Gate of Angkor Thom, known as Big Angkor, a 3km 2 walled and moated royal city which was the last capital of the Angkorian Empire. The famous Bayon Temple was an architectural muddle, in part because it was constructed in a somewhat piecemeal fashion for over a century. Terrace of the Elephants is an impressive, two-and-a-half-meter-tall, 300-meter-long terrace wall adorned with carved elephants that spans the heart of Angkor Thom. Terrace of the Leper King is at the north end of the Terrace of the Elephants, a double terrace wall deeply carved with mythological figures. Finally, visit Ta Prohm Temple, which is a wonderful combination of human genius and natural beauty!

After breakfast, check out and depart for Halong Bay, a World Heritage as designated by UNESCO in 1994, with nearly 3,000 rocky islets. The drive may take you more than three to four hours, depending on the high or low seasons’ traffic, and will pass the Red River Delta, one of the two granaries of Vietnam. Upon arrival in Halong, we will sail our boat around its natural rocky gardens whilst a tasty seafood lunch (local food) is waiting on board. Most of the islets here are not inhabitedΒ due to the lack of fresh water, but are excellent for cruising to contemplate their miraculous draws on the horizon. We can wander to visit a grotto or just lazily relax on the sundeck. Evening attend activities on the boat or relax at your own leisure. Overnight on the cruise.

Enjoy the dawn on the sea in the early morning. The Vietnamese call the “East Sea” by a point-oriented name, “Eastern Sea”, so you may guess how miraculous it is to see the sunrise over the islets of the Bay. After breakfast, our boat will continue to cruise through marvelous areas, where almost every islet has its own name, shaped like or reminiscent of Sail Island, Fisherman’s head rock, Butterfly rock, or Turtle islet,Β etc. Check out your room and have brunch on board while the cruise is coming back to the pier. Disembark from the cruise and transfer back to Hanoi.

Afternoon, visit Ba Dinh Square – the biggest square in Hanoi, where all the biggest cultural, political events of the city, especially demonstrations, take place. Start our visit at the Complex of Ho Chi Minh, including Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (from outside only, as it closes in the afternoon), Ho Chi Minh’s house-on-stilts, his fish pond, and the One-Pillar Pagoda. Then, the Temple of Literature, which is considered the first university in Vietnam. Later, we have an overall view of the capital by a leisure walk, which wanders around the Old Quarter of Hanoi and the Hoan Kiem Lake (the “Sword” Lake). From here, wandering on the narrow streets of the Old Quarter to experience the daily life of the local people & shopping at Dong Xuan market. Overnight in Hanoi.

Packed breakfast, checked out, and transferred to the airport for a flight to Saigon, a visit to the Cu Chi tunnels. Located 60km from Saigon, Cu Chi is now a popular spot for both Vietnamese & foreign tourists – the network of over 200km of tunnels became legendary when they played a vital role in the War. In their heyday, the tunnels were functioning underground cities, including numerous trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers & kitchens. After a short introduction video showing how the tunnels were constructed, you will have a chance to crawl into a short section of the tunnels to feel the oppressive narrowness and heat inside. Transfer back to Saigon to check into the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Saigon.
