DAY SEVEN | ST MARTIN’S ISLAND

After breakfast leave for Teknuf by 9 in the morning. We will board the Cruise-vessel to sail to St Martin’s Island in Bay of Bengal.

Idyllic St Martin’s Island is everything that brash Cox’s Bazar is not. It’s the country’s only coral island and its beaches do actually match the hype. It also has more bungalow-style accommodation, which adds to the beach vibe. St Martin’s is home to a friendly, tomorrow-never-comes population of around 7000, who live primarily off fishing.

The island is fairly small – about 6km in length and rarely more than 1km wide – so it’s easy to navigate. Rickshaws are available, but you can also just walk around it from beach to beach. Explore south, called Cherra Dwip, a thin strip of untouched land which is cut off from the rest of the island at high tide.

The first settlement started just 250 years ago by some Arabian sailors who named the island ‘Zajira’. During British regime the island was named St. Martin Island.

The boat trip over here is as interesting as it is scenic. Look out for traditional boats as you sail along the Myanmar coastline. Get your camera ready for some magical sunset as well as sunrise shots from the island.

Up on arrival, check in to the hotel.  An unforgettable experience awaits you while you explore the island on your own. Stay the night in St Martin’s Island – the southernmost tip of Bangladesh.
